"The sea is not only for one vacation"

"Baywatch"

Garbage that is thrown out on the beaches consists mainly of non-biodegradable plastic - bags, cups and bottles. They pile up and cause a constant pollution of the sea and the sea coast. People suffer from that, but mostly suffers the nature and marine birds. You have seen the rubbish! Everyone of us has stumbled in empty cups and lied over cigarette-ends.

At the beginning of each year Mayday foundation organises a big campaign for popularizing the cleanness of the beaches and for cleaning of the unguarded beaches in the region of Varna. Its aim is to attract the attention of the community to the problem of the sea coast pollution as well as to stimulate responsible and careful behaviour on behalf of the tourists.

"Baywatch" are 50 girls and boys that are volunteers and six years in turn make efforts in order to save the beaches and the sea from the pollution and fight with people’s lack of interest towards the purity of nature.

In the framework of the campaign during the whole summer demonstrative cleanings of the sea bed and the sea coast are carried out. The volunteers go around the unguarded beaches and hand out informative leaflets and rubbish bags to the tourists, explain the danger from throwing out rubbish directly on the beach and in the sea. Educational radio and TV spots are broadcasted as well as part of the campaign.

"Baywatch" campaign needs funds for organising of volunteers’ actions and for preparation of the informative handouts.

If you want to contribute to the preservation of the cleanness and the beauty of the Bulgarian coast in the region of Varna, make a donation for "Baywatch" campaign.
