Bulgarian Donors’ Forum created an informative web site for donating for children in Bulgaria www.givingforchildren.org.
Givingforchildren.org is designed to assist individual and business donors who want to help children at risk, children without parents and children who are living in residential institutions in Bulgaria. The site provides basic information and advice to help ensure that the donors are engaged in the most informed and effective philanthropy.
Givingforchildren.org is directed to people, companies and institutions that have a long-term philanthropic strategy, to people who like to make a one-off donation for Bulgarian children without parents and for people who have come across a media publication and would like to contribute to the cause described.
Children currently living in institutions and children without parents are the No 1 philanthropic cause in Bulgaria. Each year campaigns and individual donations for this total nearly 8 mln Bulgarian leva (4 mln euro). More than 60% of the companies working in Bulgaria have made more then one financial donation to children in institutions.
When donating for children in institutions, there is unfortunately often a risk of the donation not reaching its beneficiaries or duplicating the efforts already made by others. At worst there are cases of frauds, causing more harm than good.
Bulgarian Donors’ Forum strongly recommends that one make an informed decision about his philanthropic giving for children in Bulgaria, including its longer-term impact.
We, the creators of Zaedno.bg, Workshop for Civic Initiatives Foundation, join to Bulgarian Donors’ Forum in its opinion that making of each donation should be preceded by a careful examination of the cause which the donation is made for as well as of the organization that organizes the respective charity campaign. Only that way the donations can be effective and can become a tool for a real help and change.
